I am a sucker for subscription boxes. I must admit though, I find most beauty subs lacking. I’ve tried some good ones (Ipsy, BeautyCon), some okay ones (Glossybox, Boxycharm), and some fairly disappointing ones (I’m looking at you Sephora Play!).
I’ve quit most of them for one reason or another – but one major reason is the inclusion of skinare in all the boxes. I have the unfortunate skintype of sensitive and acne prone. This means nothing on my face with fragrance, and I can’t go around trying skincare products willy nilly. I need a box that is pretty much cosmetics only. So when I discovered the cruelty free company Medusa’s Makeup has a new subscription box I knew I had to try it.
The price is $15.95 a month (this includes shipping to the U.S.) and should include “3-5 vegan products with a $40 value” according to the website. The box shipped out about a day after I started my subscription and the shipping was quite fast.
The box contains 4 full size makeup products. Glitter in Ozone, Eye Dust in Brown Sugar, Lip Gloss in Loverboy & Lipstick in Baroque.
I don’t own any glitter products – it’s not a product I’ve given much thought to. So I like receiving it to try in a box. This glitter is very fine. It actually stuck on to some regular eyeshadow primer when I swatched it, but I’ll have to pick up something stronger for trying some looks. I’ve already got a couple of ideas! (Swatched at the bottom)
Next up is a loose eye shadow. The color itself is a maroon rust color. It’s very pigmented, soft and blendable. I love using colors like this, so I’m very excited to have it. (Swatched at the bottom)
Next up we have a lip gloss. Guys, this color looks crazy in the tube. And swatched on the arm. On the lips though, it’s a wearable hint of baby pink. The formula is not sticky at all, and very comfortable to wear.
Lastly, we have a lipstick in the color Baroque. So, this was probably my least favorite item. But only because this is a dupe of a color I’ve gotten from some other brands in other subscription boxes. That being said, I much prefer this formula! There is no discernable scent/taste. It’s a slightly sheer shiny berry color that I find flattering. It’s very moistand comfortable – but definitely something you want to use a lipliner with, because I could see it migrating.
Final Thoughts : I finally found a beauty subscription box that gets me excited! The total value of this month’s box is $35, which is slightly lower than the promised $40, but not by much. And it’s still double the cost of the box. The products are high quality, and there are so many things in the makeup line I want to try; I don’t see myself cancelling any time soon. Plus there is the added bonus of being cruelty free/vegan. This one’s a keeper!
